As generative AI and agentic AI rapidly transform the software landscape, developers face a pivotal moment of change and opportunity. This talk explores how software engineering is not becoming obsolete, despite the doomsayers’ predictions. Instead, the approach to development is rather evolving—requiring new skills, mindsets, and approaches.
​Drawing on insights from leading voices in the field, we’ll examine how AI is reshaping workflows, what it means for the engineer’s role, and how to thrive in this new era. We are at the early stages of incremental and governed automation and code generation.
​Finally, we will share how a handful of the Apache Spark™ developers at Databricks are experimenting and exploring with Agentic AI tools.
